Dispatching Kindness

The security situation: Chasdei Naomi will send volunteers to bring food and medications to elderly people who are afraid to leave their homes. The organization will also send escorts for single mothers.
Chasdei Naomi, Israel’s largest organization involved in food distribution to the needy, will send volunteers to bring food and medications to elderly or ailing people and to people with disabilities who fear leaving their homes due to the security situation.

Chasdei Naomi has recently received calls from clients who have said that they are afraid to come and pick up their food packages. These are people who need to put food on the table for young children or elderly household members – who, if they don’t get their packages, could simply find themselves without food for days at a time.
The distribution service announced by Chasdei Naomi is also being offered to the public at large, not just to the organization’s regular clients. People can contact Chasdei Naomi with addresses to which volunteers may be sent. If food is needed, the volunteers will go to the supermarket nearest to the caller’s home; if medications are needed, volunteers from Lev Naomi (Chasdei Naomi’s sister organization in the healthcare field) will go to a pharmacy and get the items. In addition to distributing food, Chasdei Naomi is also prepared to provide escorts for single mothers who are afraid to go out alone on errands such as picking their children up from preschool.
So that Chasdei Naomi can offer these services, the organization is making a public appeal for volunteers, especially people with cars. All those interested in helping with these tasks are invited to contact Chasdei Naomi. Additionally, due to a shortage of volunteers Chasdei Naomi is launching a subsidized Facebook campaign aimed at reinforcing its activity and putting those who want to help in touch with people who need help. Areas of activity will be Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Bat Yam, Tiberias, Ashdod, Netanya, Beit Shemesh, Modi’in Illit, Elad, Safed, Nazareth, Sderot, and others.
Yosef Cohen, Chair of Chasdei Naomi: “The wave of terrorism is also being felt in the welfare sphere, and unfortunately aid recipients and needy people and those who are already hungry could potentially starve themselves so as not to leave their homes and encounter a terrorist.” Chasdei Naomi’s CEO added: “This is a population that is already physically weak, and to cross paths with a terrorist is a death sentence. By taking this measure we hope to do our part toward combating terrorism.”
