Due to the increased number of families in need, two weeks before the Passover holiday the “Hasdei Naomi” Charity Organization have been preparing packages of “Passover alms to the poor” For the holiday, the Organization is expected to distribute hundreds of tons of Passover kosher food products, vegetables, fruit, poultry and meats in huge volume.
In preparation for Passover 5771 [2011] the “Hasdei Naomi” Charity Organization will distribute a huge volume of food products, vegetables, fruits and meat : 500 tons of fruits and vegetables, 5 tons of meat and poultry, 5 tons of biscuits, 20,000 liters of oil, 10,000 liters of grape juice, 20 tons sugar, 20 tons rice, 1 ton of matzo flour, 4 tons of chocolate spread, hundreds of tons of matzos, dairy products, salads, canned food, detergents and a variety of sweets for the children.
The “Hasdei Naomi” Charity Organization is one of the largest organizations collecting and distributing food to needy families. The organization is based on more than 4,000 volunteers, who help by collecting donations, packaging and distribution of food packages to the families.
The chairman of the “Hasdei Naomi” Organization Rabbi Yossef Cohen indicates that in light of the high demand of the needy families before Passover 5771, the association began its organization for Operation “Passover alms to the poor”: preparing and delivering food packages, already this week.
As of next week the Organization ‘s volunteers will work in shifts, 24 hours per day, to prepare the packages and to distribute them to the needy families. Rabbi Cohen notes that this year there is an expected growth in demand for food aid packages between 30% and 50%, compared with the same period last year.
Passover aid packages will include among other things, grape juice, oil, sugar, rice, canned goods, chocolate spread, cakes, sweets and snacks for children, plenty of fruits and vegetables, meats and poultry. Value of each package is estimated at 500 ₪. Aid packages will be distributed to about 10,000 needy families, orphans and widows through 40 distribution centers across the country.
About 50% of all the products used are bought by the Organization directly from the producers. Other products come through the volunteers, who enlist the donations of various chain stores, appeal for donations from plants and enterprises, and through the “Hasdei Naomi” Organization mobile collection carts usually located near supermarkets.
